Crystals is a mixed year 10/11 class. Pupils in Crystals usually follow the Ruby or Pearl pathway. We offer lots of different practical learning experiences as well as core skills as pupils begin to think about life after school. Pupils are supported to develop their independence within school and in preparation for life. They attend sessions at the Independent Living Centre in Brierley Hill where they can learn and practise household jobs such as making the bed, making simple snacks and doing the washing.
Staying safe is particularly important when moving towards greater independence so our pupils work on staying safe when out and about, personal safety and E-safety. We also work with the road safety and bus training team from Dudley. PSHE/SRE is taught directly weekly and incidentally through a range of trips and different learning experiences. We have a lovely garden area where we grow lots of different plants. We take part in Duke of Edinburgh, PE, and in year 11 we all have the opportunity to have some work experience.
Crystals Class produces its own termly newsletter to let parents and carers know what learning is taking place within their classroom. To read the Crystals Class newsletter/s click on the link below and search for Crystals Class.
Suggested Home Learning
There are many ways parents can extend and support their child’s learning at home. Minimal input of resources and time can still heavily influence their learning. Easy low cost activities such as regular reading at home or simple word games can support children’s basic language skills; whilst offering experiences such as exploring the local community can build a child’s understanding of the world and support a range of areas such as maths and physical development.
We have put together a selection of suggested home learning activities for parents / carers to use with their children. Use the link below to view / download our Crystals Class Home Learning Activities document.
